What we learn about men's checkered shirt

Test: Tear Strenght DS/EN ISO 13937-1:2000

During this test we are going to test the strength of the threats in our shirt.

The fabric is made from 65% of cotton and 35% of polyester.

We are testing the strength of the warp and weft threats. First we cut ten pieces, five in the weft and five warp direction.

Then we clamp each piece one for on in the machine, after they were clamped the machine teared it. After that we pressed the buttons and the machine started. In below table we noted the measurements.

The results are displayed in Newton.

Sample no. Tearing of warp yarns Tearing of weft yarns

1 18.45 22.19

2 16.19 21.97

3 18.65 24.61

4 17.09 23.07

5 15.68 25.22

Average 17.21 23.41

For loose fit shirt the requirements should be bigger than 15 N.

Our shirt passed the test.

To assess the amount of threats per centimetre we counted the threats in 10 centimetres and divided them in 10 afterwards. The amount of threats per centimetre in our fabric was 24 for weft and 39 for warp.

We also counted the coloured threats of the check. The outcome was: 9 of blue, 35 of black, 35 of grey, 9 of white, 9 of yellow, 9 of white, 32 of navy blue, 27 of white, 32 of navy blue, 9 of white, 9 of yellow, 9 of white, 35 of grey, 35 of black and 9 of navy blue threats.
